This limited edition blind embossed relief print is part of The Cameo Series which spotlights native plants encountered by the artist while exploring Western North Carolina. Printed from a hand-carved block, the absence of ink enhances the embossed shadows, emphasizing the intricate details of each plant’s form. Much like a cameo role in a film or a piece of cameo jewelry that highlights an individual, each piece in this series focuses on a particular plant, bringing attention to its specific role within the natural ecosystem.

Wild meadow parsnip (Thaspium trifoliatum) is a perennial herb native to eastern North America, commonly found in open meadows, prairies, and along woodland edges. This plant typically reaches a height of 1 to 3 feet, with slender, branching stems that bear compound leaves composed of three leaflets. The leaflets are lance-shaped (sward-like), toothed, and have a slightly hairy texture.

Blooming in late spring to early summer, wild meadow parsnip produces clusters of small, bright yellow flowers arranged in flat-topped umbels. These vibrant flower clusters attract a variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. The plant prefers well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade, making it a versatile addition to native plant gardens and restoration projects. Its bright yellow flowers add a splash of color to natural landscapes and support local biodiversity.
